E-por (at high densities) could be used to lightweight structural parts
As a PS/PE (polystyrene/polyethylene) interpolymer, E-por combines the benefits
of both polymers. The solvent resistance is superior compared to standard EPS.
Acetone and gasoline are just two examples of solvents that E-por displays some
resistance.
Another advantage of E-por is the smooth surface. This allows sensitive parts
such as solar cells/wafers, electronics, and other high value goods to come in
contact with E-por. No abrasion to the part will occur because of E-por’s smooth
finish.
Lastly, E-por allows for you to design in foam which was not possible in the
past. Structural parts that are injection molded can be replaced by high density
E-por. At densities over 4 pcf, E-por will pass the FMVSS302 flammability
standard. Markets such as automotive, marine, and other types of transportation
can see the lightweighting benefits of E-por, therefore, increasing fuel
economy.
E-por creates value because it is able to be used in multiple densities,
markets, and applications. Regardless of your application, this crack resistant,
solvent resistant foam with a smooth glossy finish is beneficial to you and your
customer.
Tempo’s patented
Dry Molding Process is ideal for thin wall molding (under 6mm thickness) for
E-por.
Tempo’s Open Architecture mold construction allows for molded undercuts and
no-draft conditions where designs require. Customers save significant mold costs
as Tempo machinery accommodates single and double cavity molds for early
production phases, with additional capacity added as needed.
E-por is chemically resistant to virtually all aqueous media including dilute
acids and alkalis. E-por is resistant to water-miscible alcohols such as
methanol, ethanol, i-propanol and also to silicone oils.
E-por has successfully tested for 30 days immersed in #1 Diesel (kerosene), it
has limited resistance to gasoline, paraffin oils, #2 Diesel and Vaseline. These
substances may attack the surface of foamed materials after long-term contact
and may cause deformation through shrinkage.
Details on all four exterior walls require each side wall of the mold to
retract. Heat controls for every mold segment allow adjustment for nice surface
finish. 3mm wall thickness for interlocks on these mating duct sections. BASF E-por
